At BlackJack Kennels, we take great pride in taking the time and effort needed in order to prepare each of our world-class Labrador puppies for the great adventures that lie ahead, both in the field and around your home.
All of our dogs are working dogs, which means that while they are born and bred for the thrill of the hunt, they are also caringly raised to become loving and loyal family members and companions. We personally own all of the dogs that we breed, all of them have been professionally trained and they all live on site. You are welcome to schedule a visit if you are in the area to meet us and see the dogs.
When born, we start to handle them right away and assist the mother in cleaning them up. They are soon cuddled up with their mother and nursing. We take pride in keeping a clean living environment for our puppies from the very beginning. This is a very important part of their upbringing as it allows them to understand & strive for this clean way of living. They spend the next four weeks or so living inside with their mother with occasional trips outside once old enough. We give them lots of attention and introduce them to solid food at the appropriate time.
Each of our puppies then graduates to “puppy adventure camp” where they are socialized and exposed to as many new experiences as possible before releasing them to their new homes at seven weeks of age. During their time with us, each puppy will go on many different adventures including trips to the vet, rides in the UTV (in a crate), numerous trips to our ponds, adventurous walks across the creek & more. All of this important routine and socialization helps to teach them to listen and pay attention, which is crucial for any good dog.
We do everything that we can to give them as much time as possible around people. This socialization helps to keep our puppies from feeling afraid or upset when it’s time to go with their new family to their new home. It’s just another day in their life as they’re always ready for each new adventure that the day might bring.
We view breeding and raising our world-class Labradors as a hobby and for fun. We truly enjoy what we do, and we believe it shows in the quality of dogs we provide. If you have any questions or special requests for the upbringing of your new Labrador, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
When your puppy goes home with you, they will have already been examined by our Vet twice. Once, at four or five days of age when they get their dew claws removed and again at 6 weeks when they receive their first round of vaccinations. They will have been wormed four times and we will give you information on getting them started on a monthly Heartworm prevention program. You receive full AKC Registration rights, health records, written instructions for feeding and care and a 30-Month written Unconditional Guarantee.
